Desktop party audio for game tables, side rooms, and creator sessions that need reliable voice outside the browser.

Overview

Aethera Voice is reliable party audio for game tables, side rooms, and creator sessions. It comes in two forms that share your Aethera account:

  • A desktop app for Windows, with a tray menu, global push-to-talk, and device controls that keep working even when your browser doesn’t have focus.
  • A hosted browser version at /voice for jumping in without an install.

Voice is built to pair with the in-browser VTT: a GM can link campaign voice rooms so the whole table talks in the same session (see Using Voice with the VTT). Richer perks — HD streaming, larger uploads, and profile customization — come with Aethera Voice Plus, which is included in the Aethera Premium subscription.

The desktop installer is published for Windows (x64). If you’re on another platform, use hosted Voice in your browser at /voice.

Getting started

Option A — the desktop app

  1. Download. Use the Download button (it points to /downloads/aethera-voice/latest). You can check the version, file size, and signing details at /api/downloads/aethera-voice/latest.
  2. Install. Run the installer. It lets you choose the install location and creates desktop and Start Menu shortcuts. Releases are code-signed by Aethera.TV.
  3. Sign in with your Aethera account to connect the app to the rest of the platform.

Option B — hosted Voice in the browser

  1. Open /voice and sign in with your Aethera account.
  2. To check microphone and camera devices before a session, open /voice/?openSettings=devices (“Voice readiness”).

If your mic isn’t picked up on the desktop app, open your operating system’s microphone privacy settings and then refresh the app’s media diagnostics.

Key features

In-call controls

  • Mute / Unmute and Deafen / Undeafen.
  • Push-to-talk (PTT), with a global hotkey on the desktop app (default Alt + Space) that works even when another window is focused.
  • Device selection for your microphone and camera, plus a live mic-level indicator.
  • Voice, video, and screen share over WebRTC.

Presence & rooms

  • Per-person presence — Connected, Speaking, Muted, or Offline.
  • Separate rooms for a session: a Main table, Side rooms for split parties, and a GM private room (managed from the VTT — see below).
  • Priority speaker / narration spotlight, so a narrator can be heard over the table.

Desktop conveniences

  • A tray menu with quick mute/deafen, push-to-talk, the current room, and Leave Voice Room.
  • Launch on Login and built-in Check for Updates (the app asks before restarting to update).

Using Voice with the VTT

Inside a VTT campaign, the GM controls voice from the right sidebar’s Voice Link panel.

  • Link rooms. The GM creates and links the campaign’s voice rooms, then can Refresh the link or Disable it. Players join table audio straight from the browser.
  • Move players. From Voice Moderation, the GM can move selected players to a side room or GM-private room, restore everyone to the main table, or request a quiet pause. Side-room and private moves send the affected players a visible room notice.
  • Per-player audio. Voice and video follow presence status, and each player mutes or unmutes from their own avatar badge.
  • Recordings (GM, opt-in). Linked-room recordings can be saved into a GM-only journal, and require recorded consent.

Players don’t need their own subscription to talk at a linked table — only the host setting up the campaign manages the plan. See the VTT docs for the GM side.

Aethera Voice Plus

Aethera Voice Plus is the premium tier for people who live in voice. It’s included with the Aethera Premium subscription ($29/month or $313.20/year — annual saves 10%), which also bundles VTT power-hosting and ad-free playback.

Voice Plus adds:

  • HD streaming.
  • Larger uploads and richer media sharing.
  • Longer messages and premium profile customization, including app-icon controls.
  • Themes, soundboard access, avatar decorations, and custom sticker perks.

Troubleshooting

  • Mic not detected (desktop). Open your OS microphone privacy settings, then refresh the app’s media diagnostics.
  • Notifications missing (desktop). Open your OS notification settings, then refresh the app’s attention diagnostics.
  • VTT voice link dropped. Reopen the Voice Link panel in the VTT and refresh it.
  • Connection failed. Contact support and include the visible support trace shown in the diagnostics section.
  • Check service health any time at /status.html (Runtime, RTC route, Auth bridge, and Desktop updates).
